Beyond the Tables: A Canadian Experience
When we set out to review the casino hotels of Ontario, we expected neon lights and endless rows of slot machines. What we found was a surprising diversity in architecture and atmosphere that mirrors the province itself. From the thundering backdrop of Niagara Falls to the serene forests of Orillia, Ontario's gaming sector offers a unique blend of urban sophistication and cottage-country charm.Â
As the most populous province in Canada, Ontario operates under the strict regulatory eye of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This rigorous oversight ensures that while the entertainment is high-octane, the standards for safety and fairness are uncompromising. In our assessment, this creates a welcoming environment for international visitors who might be accustomed to less regulated markets.Â
Over the past year, our team has checked into the province's major gaming resorts. We slept in the suites, ate at the steakhouses, and yes, we spent time on the gaming floors. Our goal was to look past the marketing gloss and answer a simple question: Which of these properties truly offers a complete resort experience?Â

Fallsview Casino Resort
Niagara Falls, Ontario
There is no escaping the sheer scale of Fallsview. Standing on the gaming floor, looking through the glass walls to the mist rising from the Horseshoe Falls, you realize you are at a geographic crossroads. This is one of the largest gaming facilities in Canada, and during our visit, the energy was palpable—buzzing with the sound of 3,000 slot machines and the chatter of tourists from around the globe.Â
The Gaming Experience
We found the casino floor to be vast, perhaps overwhelmingly so for some. It features over 130 table games and a dedicated poker room that hosts major tournaments. What stood out to us was not just the volume of games, but the quality of the high-limit areas. They offer a secluded, upscale environment that contrasts sharply with the busy main floor. If you are a poker enthusiast, the tournament schedule here is arguably the best in the province.Â
Accommodation & Amenities
The hotel is a luxury high-rise containing 374 rooms. We recommend requesting a falls-view room; waking up to the mist of the falls is worth the premium. The resort is physically connected to the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark, a feature that makes it surprisingly family-friendly despite being a major casino. The full-service spa and fitness center are adequate, though we felt the pool area could get crowded on weekends.Â
Culinary Highlights
Dining is a strong suit here. "The Range" offers a high-end steakhouse experience that rivals independent premium steakhouses in Toronto. For a quicker bite, "Webers" serves premium burgers, and the buffet offers panoramic views that are almost as impressive as the food spread. The culinary focus is clearly on variety, ensuring guests never have to leave the property to find global cuisine.Â

Casino Rama Resort
Orillia, Ontario
Located in the heart of cottage country on Lake Couchiching, Casino Rama feels less like a Vegas clone and more like a secluded retreat. The drive here takes you through the beautiful Muskoka region, setting a tone of relaxation before you even arrive. We found the atmosphere to be distinctively more friendly and communal than the border-city casinos.Â
Entertainment Focus
While the gaming floor offers over 2,500 slots and 100 table games, Casino Rama is famous for its 5,000-seat entertainment centre. During our stay, this venue was a major draw. Hosting A-list concerts and sporting events, it transforms the resort into a destination for non-gamblers as well. The interior design incorporates natural wood elements, a nod to its surroundings, which we found tasteful and calming.Â
The Stay
The 300-room hotel is well-appointed but feels intimate compared to the mega-resorts of Niagara. We particularly enjoyed "The Spa at Casino Rama," which offers a comprehensive menu of treatments. Because the resort is somewhat isolated from major urban centers, it creates a self-contained ecosystem. You come here to disconnect, except for the gambling, of course.Â
Dining & Atmosphere
We dined at "The Willow," the fine dining establishment, and appreciated the focus on local ingredients. "St. Germain's" provides excellent seafood and steaks in a quieter setting. The vibe here is rustic elegance. It attracts an older demographic and concert-goers looking for a weekend escape in the countryside rather than a high-energy party.Â

Caesars Windsor
Windsor, Ontario
Caesars Windsor brings a touch of Roman grandeur to the Canadian border. The most striking feature of this property is its view: looking across the river at the Detroit skyline creates a unique, cosmopolitan backdrop. It feels like an international hub, and indeed, it draws a significant number of visitors from the United States.Â
Gaming & Sportsbook
The casino floor is expansive, featuring the expected array of slots and tables, but the modern sportsbook is a highlight. The "Augustus Tower" houses a high-limit salon that offers genuine privacy. We noted that the service here was highly polished, attentive to both high-rollers and casual players. The atmosphere is glamorous and energetic, leveraging the brand identity effectively.Â
Business & Leisure
With over 750 rooms, this is a large property. It is directly connected to the convention centre, making it a prime spot for business travelers. The amenities, including the indoor pool and luxury spa, are modern and well-maintained. The proximity to the Detroit-Windsor tunnel makes it incredibly accessible for American guests, contributing to a diverse, international crowd.Â
Dining Options
"Neros Steakhouse" is the crown jewel here, offering an upscale Italian steak experience that rivals anything in Detroit. "The Canadian" focuses on regional dishes, providing a nice sense of place. The buffet is massive and varied. In our assessment, the food quality here is consistent with the luxury branding of the resort.Â

Considerations
Niagara Fallsview Marriott on the Falls
Niagara Falls, Ontario
While technically a hotel rather than a standalone casino, the Fallsview Marriott earns its place on this list due to its strategic integration. It is connected via indoor walkways to the Fallsview Casino complex. This setup offers the best of both worlds: premium, family-focused hotel amenities with immediate access to the gaming floor.Â
The "De Facto" Casino Experience
What stood out to us was the convenience. You can leave your room, take a short indoor walk, and be at the slots in minutes without stepping outside. This is a massive advantage in the winter months. It allows guests to enjoy the casino amenities while staying in a dedicated hotel environment that feels less chaotic than the casino itself.Â
Views & Family Focus
The Marriott is renowned for its views. Many rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows facing the falls directly. We found the rooms to be modern, clean, and more spacious than average. The connection to the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark via a pedestrian skywalk makes this a top choice for families, offering entertainment for children while parents might take turns visiting the casino.Â
Dining & Vibe
"Milestones on the Falls" offers global comfort food with that essential panoramic view. The hotel vibe is modern and bustling with tourists, but it serves as a comfortable retreat from the sensory overload of the casino floor. It feels like a premium resort that happens to be next to a casino, rather than a casino that happens to have rooms.Â

Practical Travel Tips for Ontario Gamers
Identification is Mandatory
The legal age for gambling in Ontario is 19. This is strictly enforced. Do not expect to enter the floor without valid government-issued photo ID. Provincial laws are rigorous, and the AGCO oversees compliance closely.
Currency & Payment
While casinos accept US currency near the border, exchange rates may not be favorable. We recommend using Canadian Dollars (CAD) on the slot machines and tables. ATMs are widely available but carry fees.
Dress Code Etiquette
General gaming floors are casual, but we noticed that high-limit rooms and restaurants like Neros or The Range enforce a smart casual dress code. Avoid flip-flops and athletic wear in these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is smoking allowed on the casino floors?
Ontario law prohibits smoking in enclosed public spaces and workplaces. This includes all casinos. You cannot smoke on the gaming floor. Designated outdoor smoking areas are provided, but you will need to leave the floor to use them.
Are drinks free while gambling?
Unlike Las Vegas, complimentary alcoholic drinks are not generally served to players on the floor in Ontario. You must purchase your drinks at the bar or from servers. However, non-alcoholic beverages like coffee and soda are often available complimentary.
Can I use my mobile phone to gamble?
Yes, Ontario has a regulated private market for iGaming. You can use licensed apps while on the property. However, taking photographs or videos of the gaming floor is strictly prohibited by security protocols.

Niagara Falls is stunning in the summer but crowded. Winter offers a frozen beauty and is less busy, though the weather is harsh. Casino Rama is beautiful in the autumn during the foliage change in Muskoka.
Is there valet parking?
Yes, all four major resorts discussed offer valet parking as well as self-parking garages. Valet fees vary by property and are sometimes comped for hotel guests or high-tier players club members.
